Flood Victim In Colorado Springs Thought He 'Was A Goner'
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) - Colorado Springs saw some dangerous weather Monday afternoon that brought hail and caused flooding.
According to the National Weather Service, a thunderstorm dropped up to two inches of rain in the city before weakening. Small creeks and streams flooded due to the runoff.
The rain started around sometime just after 1 p.m. and it gave drainage systems some trouble.
One neighborhood spent hours digging out of feet of hail. Many of the homes in the neighborhood were flooded, displacing some residents.
"All the sudden here came the hail and it was coming down hard and heavy," said resident Roger Wheeler.
Cars stalled out in the high water.
Across the street Daniel Vasquez didn't know if he would live through it.
"It came like nothing, out of nowhere," he said. "I stood there and the water was rising and rising. I thought I was a goner."
Vasquez's basement was filled with hail. His main level saw another two feet of water and hail inside the house.
Colorado Springs crews tried to clear as much as possible, hoping not to clog an already over worked drainage.
Many residents packed their things and left.
