Woman's Body Found On Roadside After Apparent Hit & Run

BRIGHTON, Colo. (CBS4) - A 50-year-old woman is dead after walking away from a crash on Interstate 76 and then getting struck by a car that didn't stop.

The crash happened early Friday morning along Interstate 76 in Brighton near the 136th Avenue exit. The woman's car, a blue Subaru, drove through a signpost and crashed into a ditch.

After getting out of the car, she apparently wandered along the highway about a half mile and then crossed the westbound lanes to the opposite side of the highway. It was there on the shoulder of the eastbound lanes that police say they believe she was struck by an oncoming car and killed.

Brighton police are asking anyone who has more information about the incident to contact them at (303) 655-8740.

"That's the information we're looking for -- if someone did strike her along the roadway we'd like to talk to them and find out what happened and obviously we'd like to know who they are," said John Bradley, Brighton police spokesman.

Traffic was backed up significantly on the highway during the Friday morning rush hour while the investigation into the incident continued.
