2 Llamas On The Lam After Mountain Hike

DURANGO, Colo. (CBS4)- A search was underway on Friday for two llamas that were left behind in the mountains of southwestern Colorado.

The llamas, named Dawson and Chai, were brought on a day hike with their handlers but then got lost about 11,000 feet elevation.

The handlers spent two nights in the Weminuche Wilderness Area near Durango before they were rescued by helicopter.

The women set the llamas free rather than tie them up so they could avoid predators and forage for food and water.

A search is expected over the weekend to find the llamas. Dawson is cocoa brown and Chai is black with white under his chin.
