Huge Pot Grow Dismantled In San Isabel National Forest

CUCHARA, Colo. (AP/CBS4) - The U.S. Forest Service says authorities have destroyed an illegal marijuana grow in the San Isabel National Forest.

The agency said Thursday that over 13,000 plants were discovered east of Cuchara this week. A team of local and federal law enforcement agents removed them along with a loaded shotgun, irrigation pipe, pesticides, flammable liquids, camping gear and trash.

"The production of marijuana and other illegal drugs on National Forest System lands creates many challenges. Marijuana cultivation occurs in many areas that employees and visitors utilize for a myriad of legitimate purposes. These illegal activities can also damage sensitive riparian areas, are often harmful or fatal to wildlife, and lead to other environmental problems," the Forest Service said in a statement.

No one has been arrested in connection with the grow. The Forest Service is asking anyone who has information about it to contact the agency or police.
