Aqib Talib, DeMarcus Ware To Miss Beginning Of Training Camp
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4) - Denver Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak spoke to reporters on Wednesday and said after cornerback Aqib Talib's shooting injury he won't be attending the beginning of training camp.
"We're doing everything we can about getting him ready to play," Kubiak said.
Talib was shot early in June outside a nightclub in Dallas where he has an offseason home. He told police he was too intoxicated to recall details of how he got shot.
"I can't talk too much about what happened because it is under investigation in Dallas and whatever the league is proceeding with," Broncos President and CEO Joe Ellis said on Wednesday. "I didn't talk to him about the incident. I just talked to him about how he's doing physically, and he seems to be coming along, which is good."
Vice President of Football Operations John Elway said Talib needs to continue to rehab.
"He is not going to be able to practice yet, so that's a situation that we're going to continue to look at and see how he comes back. He's on NFI (Non-Football Injury) right now. He'll continue to rehab and we'll see how that goes," Elway said. "I've had one conversation with Talib about it. I don't know exactly what the league is going to do. We're just glad that he was okay and is going to be okay. Hopefully we don't have to go through this again, but we'll see what happens and what the league does."
Kubiak said he thinks Talib will return soon.
"Something took place. He's dealing with an injury. The good news is he is fine. We're doing everything we can to get him back and ready to play. Our expectations are that's going to be real soon," Kubiak said.
Linebacker DeMarcus Ware is also missing the beginning of camp with a non-football injury but Kubiak hopes he'll be ready to go when the season starts.
"As far as him being ready to go and getting him ready to go for the start of the season, I think we're heading in the right direction. It's just a matter right now of what we are going to be doing each day. Obviously he is going to miss a little bit of time right here as we work him into it," Kubiak said.
