DENVER (CBS4) – An 81-year-old woman facing charges for hitting a group of boys with her car and killing one of them was involved in another crash a few months ago.

Patricia Livingston’s family hired a spokesman and released a statement expressing sadness for last week’s incident and support for the family of the teenager who died.

Livingston was just a few blocks from her home when the collision happened last Thursday, and also just a few blocks from where she crashed into another car 9 months ago.

Family members say they knew the 81-year-old who killed 14-year-old Cole Sukle probably shouldn’t be behind the wheel, but she was driving anyway.

Livingston, the CEO of Construction Technologies Inc., and a University of Denver trustee, caused a two-car accident on Colorado and Iliff last October.

In the accident report family members said Livingston was beginning to have issues driving and said they had taken steps to getting her a driver.

Livingston still had a valid license on July 13 and was still operating her blue Audi when witnesses saw her driving erratically west on Yale Avenue. Police say she could not stay in her lane and hit Sukle and a 13-year-old in a bike lane. She continued on for more than a quarter mile, weaving through traffic before crashing in a park.

Livingston was injured and is currently being treated at an area hospital.

At the school where Sukle attended grief counselors are now being arranged. Classmates and friends who called him a treasure.
