No Changes To Cold Springs Fire Activity Anticipated Overnight

NEDERLAND, Colo. (CBS4) - Fire crews continued their attack on the Cold Springs Fire as the wildfire continued to grow in Boulder County on Monday as more homes were lost.

Some 2,000 people had been evacuated from the area after the fire broke out on Saturday. Five homes and three outbuildings have burned.

There are 155 firefighters battling the blaze along with dozens of other crews. An aerial attack has helicopters making water drops on the fire once estimated at 606 acres, but was lowered to 566 Monday evening.

At a news briefing Monday evening authorities said they don't expect changes to fire activity overnight. The fire remains zero percent contained.

Two men from Alabama are being held in the Boulder County Jail for their alleged role in starting the Cold Springs Fire.

Boulder detectives arrested 28-year-old Jimmy Suggs and 26-year-old Zack Ryan Kuykendall on Sunday after receiving tips from the community.

The men, from Vinemont, Alabama, are accused of fourth-degree arson after setting a campfire on private land Thursday and then failing to properly put it out.

Fire investigators describe what the two men built as an ad-hoc campfire near the Peak to Peak Highway and Cold Springs Road. It is believed winds in the area combined with the dry weather allowed the fire to smolder before being reported through a 911 call early Saturday afternoon.

Crews hope to make progress on some sort of containment by the end of Monday but are concerned about the strong wind gusts that have helped fuel the fire.
