Conservancy Offers Fun To Draw People Into Civic Center Park

DENVER (CBS4) - The role of the Civic Center Conservancy is simple: preserve, protect and promote the use of Civic Center Park.

"The Civic Center Conservancy is a non-profit focused on revitalizing Denver's historic Civic Center Park, giving more people more reasons to visit Civic Center more often," said Executive Director Lindy Eichenbaum Lent.

The park was named a national historic landmark in 2012.Independence Eve_2014_15

"This park has been a part of our community for over 100 years," the organization's Director of Programming & Events, Eric Lazzari, said.

"For a long time it was a kind of an afterthought, but what we're really trying to do in the community is make it an asset for people who live in Denver, people who visit Denver, people who just want to experience what the best of Denver is all about."

That makes the Conservancy's role of getting people into the park even more important. That role is growing by leaps and bounds.

"The Conservancy has greatly expanded our program," said Eichenbaum Lent.

"We're going to offer approximately 140 days of programs in Civic Center this year alone. Everything  from our free fitness classes Civic Center Moves to three days of food trucks every week to the fireworks and free concert on July 3rd. There's no better place than Civic Center in the summer."

The Independence Eve celebration and the food trucks are just part of the plan with movies, concerts and more being developed for the  future of Civic Center Park.
