Park City Dwellers Slam Vail Resort's Trademark Attempt
PARK CITY, Utah (AP) - Park City residents are fighting an attempt by the owner of a ski resort to trademark the name of their city.
The Salt Lake City Tribune reports that Vail Resorts has filed to trademark the name Park City for its combined resorts.
Former Mayor Dana Williams is leading an effort to stop the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office from approving the trademark application.
Williams says such action would rob the community of its identity and create confusion.
The deadline to voice objections is July 9.
Vail Resorts spokeswoman Kristin Williams says the corporation will safeguard businesses and use advertising to help differentiate between its resort and the municipality.
Vail Resorts owned Park City Mountain Resort and Canyons Resort in Summit County and is now combining them.
