Future Of CSU Rams Stadium Discussed

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) — The home of Colorado State University football since the late 1960s will soon be replaced by a new arena, putting the future of Hughes Stadium's site up for speculation.

The Coloradoan reports that state Sen. John Kefalas said at a weekend meeting that Hughes could be a place for affordable housing. Kefalas says he plans to meet with CSU's lowest-paid employees soon to discuss housing and other issues.

CSU President Tony Frank told the Coloradoan that affordable housing was among several possibilities.

Hughes Stadium sits on 160 acres in the western foothills of Fort Collins. It will be replaced for the 2017 football season with an on-campus stadium.

Frank has said the value of the Hughes land is about $10 million, once demolition costs are taken into account.
