1st Case Of Tularemia In Colorado This Year Reported In Fort Collins

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4)- The first case of tularemia in Colorado this season has been reported in Fort Collins.

Tularemia is carried by small animals which contaminate the soil. The bacteria can be transmitted by gardening without gloves or kicking up soil. It's also known as rabbit fever.

The patient, an adult, had to be hospitalized.

The Larimer County Health Department said the patient is recovering at home from a lung infection.
