AURORA, Colo. (CBS4)– An 80-year-old man was the victim of a carjacking on Thursday afternoon that turned into a pursuit with shots fired.
Authorities confirmed what neighbors told CBS4’s Suzanne McCarroll, that the man was the victim of a carjacking in the 13700 block of E. Rice Place just after noon.
The victim, who wears oxygen, was knocked to the ground as two suspects hopped in his car and took off.
Witnesses say he suffered a gash on his head after he was pushed from behind.
“Knocked the elderly gentleman down to the ground in the parking lot, jumped in his Cadillac, sped out of here,” said one witness.
The witness called 911 and that’s when Arapahoe County deputies pursued the Cadillac as it was speeding away.
Two miles away at Winston and El Dorado Place, the deputy rammed the speeding car to stop it.
Both the detective and suspect suffered minor injuries in the collision. Shots were fired but no one was hit by the gunfire.
One suspect was detained and the other was rushed to the hospital.
The car was left on a front lawn surrounded by shell casings.
