Denver Police Investigate Death Of A Toddler

DENVER (CBS4)- Police in Denver conducted an investigation into the death of a toddler on Thursday afternoon after the child fell from the top floor of an apartment complex.

Officers responded to the 1200 block of S. Bellaire at the Mint Urban Infinity apartments. They tweeted out an update on the situation early in the investigation.

Police responded to reports that a 2-year-old child fell out of a sixth floor window about 2:40 p.m. Thursday.

"This is hard on law enforcement, the first responders. Anytime you have a child involved, it's hard on the family," said Denver Police Cmdr. Ron Saunier.

Emergency personnel tried to save the child but the toddler did not survive.

Investigators say the child's mother and other children were home at the time.

"I do know the mother was in there. I'm told there was a roommate there with several other children," said Saunier.

The apartment complex released this statement, "We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragedy that occurred at Mint Urban Infinity on June 16th. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family."

Investigators continued to work to determine whether the fall was simply an accident or if negligence was involved.
