Surveillance Video Captures Man Accused Of Shooting Ex-Girlfriend
NORTHGLENN, Colo. (CBS4) - Northglenn police are investigating a late night shooting that left a woman critically hurt.
Shortly after midnight Monday officers were called to a home on the 500 block of East 116th Avenue. The call came from a woman inside saying her ex-boyfriend was trying to break in and was firing a gun.
"I heard a bunch of bangs," Darlene, the victim's neighbor, told CBS4's Kelly Werthmann. "I didn't know it was shots until my mother came in to ask if any bullets came through the wall."
Authorities say the suspect fired several shots, striking the woman several times. Then the suspect sped away on his motorcycle moments before police arrived.
"I just feel horrible," Charles Augustine, another neighbor, said. "They're a nice couple. I don't know what's happened."
Augustine's home security cameras captured the moments the suspect arrived to the neighborhood, and sped away when officers arrived on scene. When police got there they found the woman seriously hurt in a bedroom upstairs. She was rushed to a nearby hospital.
Other officers chased down the suspect, who was reaching speeds over 100 miles per hour down Interstate 25, according to police radio archives. Just a few minutes into the chase the suspect crashed on the off ramp at 84th Avenue. He was seriously hurt, so police took him into custody to be treated at an area hospital. Officers also recovered a handgun at the crash scene.
Authorities have not released the names of the suspect and victim, but police said the suspect does have a history of domestic violence and burglaries.
