Bear Put Down After Scratching Woman

CORTEZ, Colo. (CBS4) - Wildlife officers put down a black bear after the animal scratched a woman who was trying to get her dogs out of danger.

The bear was put down on Friday after an encounter with a woman near the town of Cortez in southwestern Colorado.

The bear reportedly tried to get to some dog food in a kennel and while the owner tried to remove the dogs, she was scratched by the bear.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife says it's protocol to euthanize animals that injure humans.

The bear will be tested for diseases.
