Tour Storm Damage On Eastern Plains With CBS4 Meteorologist Chris Spears

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - People on the Eastern Plains continue to clean up all the damage caused by Tuesday's severe storms.

Two tornadoes touched down in Washington County and large hail ripped through windows. Some hailstones were recorded as being as big as baseballs.

The tornadoes touched down near the town of Akron.

CBS4 Meteorologist Chris Spears traveled to the Eastern Plains on Wednesday to survey the damage. He said anything facing west didn't stand a chance Tuesday night near the small town of Otis. Everything from siding and windows to trees and crops were damaged.

Twenty to 40 homes sustained damage. A tornado was to blame for destroying a garage.

Leaura Basler was taking video as the storm approached when she knew it was time to seek shelter. Within seconds the storm's wind hit her home, knocking out nearly every window on the west side and sending glass flying into rooms on the other side of the house.

"You could hear just the glass shattering inside, and I looked out the door and you could see the hail was just horizontal," Basler said. "Most of it was ping pong size."

Friends like Lindsey Wagner spent much of Wednesday helping clean up the damage and thankful that it wasn't any worse.
