A Line Loses Power, Passengers Rescued From Train Stuck On Bridge

DENVER (CBS4) - The A Line was down once again on Tuesday afternoon. This time the reason was a power outage along the train line. Dozens of passengers were evacuated from a train stuck on a bridge at 78th and Gun Club Road.

Firefighters with the Denver Fire Department helped rescue 80 passengers off the train at approximately 5 p.m. The train was stopped at the Denver International Airport cellphone lot. It was unclear how long the train had been stopped at that location before passengers were able to get off.

Earlier in the afternoon, shuttle buses took passengers to their destination from other stops. RTD said train service would be down from 40th and Airport Road "until further notice." Buses continue to take passengers the rest of the way.

RTD tweeted out an update.

The A Line runs from Union Station to DIA with several stops in between.

The A Line also experienced delays over the weekend because of what RTD called issues with signal communication.

The A Line also experienced another shut down just days after it opened to the public.

Flaggers continue to monitor crossings because of an issue with the gates.

The gates were not operating properly, either dropping when a train was not arriving or not fully dropping before a train arrives.

RTD said the problem has been fixed but it will take a month of testing and then another month before the state approves the removal of flaggers.
