Armed Carjacking Leads To Deadly Officer-Involved Shooting

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - One man is dead after an armed carjacking led to a pursuit and officer-involved shooting in Aurora.

Officers responded to an armed carjacking at Wendy's just before midnight Tuesday at East Colfax Avenue and Chambers Road.

A pursuit was then authorized and officers chased the stolen suspect vehicle, a white Jeep Grand Cherokee, to the 7700 block of South Quatar Court, just south of E-470.

That's where the stolen vehicle spun out. The suspect then produced a weapon and officers fired shots, said Aurora police. The suspect, an adult white male in his mid 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

One neighbor awoke from the commotion and said his wife heard the scene unfold.

"We both woke up last night, 12:15, 30, whatever. And she said, did you hear that? And I said I hear sirens, she heard the gunshots. She kind of described it as 'Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom.' I didn't wake up until after that," said Sam Chapin.

Two women have also been detained in connection to the case.

The scene remained active through the morning and officials expected to collecting evidence for much of the day.
