Parent's Nightmare: Woman Tries To Steal SUV With Toddler Inside
DENVER (CBS4) - A woman in Denver says it took just seconds for a stranger to hop in her SUV in the garage and start backing out of the driveway with her 2-year-old daughter was in the back seat.
The suspect started backing out of the garage while Jessica Robinson, who is seven months pregnant, was grasping at the door. The suspect suddenly just stopped.
"I was turned around walking back towards the door and I heard it start," Robinson said.
Robinson was planning on a day at the park with her daughter on Friday when the incident occurred.
"It was so fast. I turned my car off, rolled the windows down a little bit, opened the door, walked inside," she said.
Her daughter was strapped into the car seat in the back of her SUV. In a matter of seconds, before she could even reach her pantry, someone had made their way inside her garage and then inside her SUV.
"I opened the garage door and a lady was in my car reversing with my 2-year-old in the car."
She ran to the driver's side, trying to get into the vehicle, but the door was locked and the woman behind the wheel was backing away.
"I was screaming, just screaming, 'What are you doing? Stop!' Just horrifying. It's the worst scene … just a nightmare."
Before long the woman did stop and then got out. She said she was sorry and she didn't know … and then walked away.
"Just shaking and sobbing and thinking about the 'what if?'"
She hopes sharing her story will be a warning to other parents.
"Two seconds is too long."
Robinson was able to get a good look at the suspect. She says she was around 30 years old with very short faded pink hair. She had tattoos on one shoulder and at the time of this incident was wearing a champagne colored satin dress.
Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call Denver police.
