Prisoner Transport Van Crashes In Park County

PARK COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)- A prisoner transport van crashed in Park County on Friday morning and several inmates were injured.

The van was traveling on State Highway 24 near milepost 254, west of Wilkerson Pass, when it crashed into a Jeep. Investigators say the driver of the Jeep lost control and hit the van.

Twelve inmates were on board when the van crashed. Fourteen people were taken to the hospital, including all of the inmates.

The prisoners were headed to the Teller County Jail. It is unclear how severe their injuries are.

The Colorado State Patrol is investigating the crash. It's believed winter driving conditions played a role in the crash. Heavy, wet snow started falling in the area on Thursday.
