Man Who Beat Another To Death With Flashlight Found Guilty

GOLDEN, Colo. (CBS4)- A man who beat another man with a flashlight so severely he was left in a coma and then died, has been found guilty of felony murder.

After the week-long trial, the jury delivered the guilty verdict for Charlie Brammeier on Tuesday for first-degree murder, burglary, aggravated robbery and aggravated motor vehicle theft.

At 11:45 a.m. on Aug. 4, 2014, police in Lakewood were called to 1250 S. Pierce Street where they found Timothy Gomez lying on the couch. He had been brutally assaulted. Gomez lived at the home with three roommates.

One of the roommates had been partying with Brammeier in her room the night before the attack. She testified that Brammeier left the house in the early morning hours of Aug. 4. She was awakened at 11:30 a.m. by another roommate who had witnessed part of the assault.

As she was dialing 911, Brammeier came back into the house and took money from Gomez's pockets and retrieved the Mag-Lite he had used as a bludgeon.

Brammeier testified that he was angry about a $20 drug transaction and said he was in a crack cocaine induced psychosis when he bludgeoned Gomez with the Mag-Lite.

Gomez was rushed to the hospital but died a couple of weeks later.

After the assault, Brammeier went to his parent's home in Larkspur, broke into their home, stole property from the house and left Colorado. He was arrested in Texas on Aug. 5, 2014 and extradited to Jefferson County.
