Burglary Suspects In Custody After Denver Police Pursuit

DENVER (CBS4) - Four burglary suspects are in custody after a police chase through south Denver on Thursday evening.

Authorities say the suspects were fleeing from a home burglary about five miles away, in the 3000 block of South Dayton Court, just after 5:30 p.m.

John Morris said a neighbor alerted him to some suspicious characters  walking through their neighborhood. When they entered a home across the street through an open garage, he decided to get involved.

"I knocked and rang the bell and no one came to the door so I did it a few times and then called 911," Morris said.

As he was knocking on that door, he said he noticed a white Lexus driving around, almost as if they were waiting for someone to come outside.

"We went around the house and saw the two people, suspects climbing out the window," said Morris.

The neighbor he was with chased after them. He even fired a weapon into the ground to scare them, but the suspects sped off.

They didn't get far before police were able to chase them down.

Officers apparently spotted the suspect vehicle near Hampden Avenue and Interstate 25 and a chase began.

The suspects were weaving in and out of traffic in the chase, which took place partly on Interstate 25. Several cars were damaged when the car the suspects were driving collided with them.

The pursuit ended at Evans Avenue and South Adams Street after police performed a pit maneuver, and four arrests were made.

The suspects may have been in possession of a gun. There were no reports of any injuries.

Several neighbors of that South Dayton address say the area has seen multiple burglaries in the last few months, and some homes have been hit more than once.
