CDOT Reminds Drivers 'Don't Drive High' Especially On 4/20

DENVER (CBS4) - The Colorado Department of Transportation wants to remind drivers that it's not okay to drive while high on the day associated with marijuana, April 20.

The Colorado State Patrol took the lead on enforcement while CDOT helped spread the safety message.

CDOT's campaign is called "Drive High Get A DUI" and has the message written on two cars to help spread the message as they drive around Civic Center Park. The cars will be followed by police.

Civic Center Park in downtown Denver has been the place where pot smokers gather on April 20 to smoke up.

"We know there are a lot of people who are driving high in Colorado. We did a survey last November and 50 percent of marijuana users told us that they have driven high and some actually think that they drive better high and nothing could be further from the truth," said Sam Cole, CDOT Safety Communications Manager. "Even though this is a slow speed chase, in reality from what law enforcement tells us is that people are driving fast, they're driving reckless and they're causing crashes while driving high."

The cars will then travel to Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre where Snoop Dogg will perform a concert later Wednesday night.
