Expect Long Lines At DIA Friday As Travelers Try To Get Out Before Storm

DENVER (CBS4) - Officials with Denver International Airport say the airport is "very busy" on Friday in advance of this weekend's storm.

A winter storm warning is set to go into effect on Saturday morning for the Denver metro area, and some passengers may be hurrying to try to leave the area before the rain and snow set in.

The wait times for the security lines are longer than normal, so officials asked travelers to plan ahead.

Many airlines have enacted travel waivers for passengers who are scheduled to travel this weekend. They include United, Frontier, Delta and Virgin America.

So far no flights have been canceled due to weather this weekend.

In Clear Creek County, the planned closure of westbound lanes of Interstate 70 at the Eisenhower Tunnel was cancelled. The closure was scheduled to begin on Sunday and continue through April 22 for replacement of a damaged barrier. Work has been rescheduled until the conclusion of the storm.

Earth Day celebrations in Lakewood scheduled for Saturday have been canceled. The celebration included an outdoor festival and electronics recycling event.

An emergency siren test scheduled for Saturday in Weld County has also been canceled.
