Max McCaffrey, 8 Other Locals Work Out For The Broncos

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4) - Imagine growing up in Colorado rooting for the Denver Broncos while playing high school football. Then imagine after going off to play college ball to have the Broncos invite you to come back home and work out for them. For nine local prospects with NFL dreams, they don't have to imagine it anymore.

On Tuesday the Broncos hosted a Pro Day just for home-grown talent at the Pat Bowlen Fieldhouse at UCHealth Training Center.

Four or five years ago the prospects were playing at schools like Chatfield, Mullen and Grandview. With their college careers now over and done, they're back in Colorado hoping to catch the eye of their hometown team.

League rules allow for NFL teams to hold pro days for draft-eligible prospects that played either high school or college football in their local metropolitan area.

The following former players were invited to participate in Tuesday's Pro Day:

Ben Clarke - G: Hawaii (Chatfield)
Troy Donahue - S: Dartmouth (Mullen)
Joe Hansley - WR: Colorado State (Highlands Ranch)
Max McCaffrey - WR: Duke (Valor Christian)
Cameron McDondle - RB: CSU-Pueblo (Columbine)
Michael Miller - TE: Taylor (Valor Christian)
Taylor Sheridan - DL: Montana State (Rock Canyon)
John Tidwell - CB: Sioux Falls (Rangeview)
Eddie Yarbrough - DE: Wyoming (Grandview)

One name that might stick out is Max McCaffrey, the son of former Broncos wide receiver Ed McCaffrey, who is following in his father's footsteps by playing wide receiver.

"It's a dream come true. Ever since I was young, growing up here, watching the Broncos play, watching my dad play, I just wanted to get to this level," McCaffrey said. "So it's a great experience."

The prospects underwent physical testing and position-specific drills by members of the team's coaching staff.
