Nearly 90 Pounds Of Pot Found Inside Car On I-25

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)- Nearly 90 pounds of marijuana was discovered in a vehicle traveling along Interstate 25 early Friday morning.

Deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office pulled over the vehicle just after midnight and found the marijuana in plain sight in large plastic storage bins inside the car.

Investigators believe the pot was being illegally trafficked.

The driver of the vehicle, Adam Lampitt, 31, was arrested.

According to arrest documents, when police asked Lampitt about the pot, he said he had just cut down his six plants. In Colorado, residents are allowed to grow up to six of their own marijuana plants for their own consumption.

David Hamill is the head instructor at The Grow School. His job is to teach people how to grow marijuana.

"Theoretically it is possible. I've never seen a yield like that or even heard of it," said Hamill.

On average, Hamill said said a single plant is more likely to produce anywhere from four to nine ounces of marijuana.

"If I grew a plant for a year and then flowered it, I would get a lot more cannabis off it," said Hamill.

Under Colorado law, the legal limit to have inside a vehicle at any time is one ounce, unless the user has a medical marijuana license.
