Park County Pays Departing Undersheriff $131,000

By Brian Maass

FAIRPLAY, Colo. (CBS4) – The Park County Board of County Commissioners on Thursday agreed to pay Undersheriff Monte Gore $131,128 in severance following Gore's April 1 resignation after 15 years with the Park County Sheriff's Office.

Gore was placed on paid leave following the Feb. 24 death of Corporal Nate Carrigan who died when he was shot during an eviction procedure.

The target of that eviction, Martin Wirth, also died during the gun battle with sheriff's deputies.

Sheriff Fred Wegener soon placed on Gore on paid leave although he said the suspension was not directly related to the shooting itself. Earlier, Wegener acknowledged there were concerns about how Gore notified the Carrigan family about the corporal's death.
