Mayor Helps Paint Rockies Purple Stripe Down Blake Street
DENVER (CBS4) - The purple stripe down Blake Street, signifying Opening Day for the Rockies, was painted in Denver Thursday morning.
Mayor Michael Hancock helped crews run the purple paint along the center of Blake Street from 19th Street to 22nd Street.
"The Colorado Rockies are very much a part of who we are here in Denver. They're our heart and soul, we root for them vigorously on Opening Day and we continue throughout the season. We're certainly rooting for a successful season this year. They have a tall order to live up to this year after the Broncos delivered the Lombardi trophy to Denver," Hancock said.
"I'm challenging them. They look good, I think they have a young nucleus of a team, and as with every opening day there's a great deal of optimism."
The purple stripe tradition started in 1995 and has stuck ever since.
First pitch against the Padres for Opening Day on Friday is at 2:10 p.m.
