FAIRPLAY, Colo. (CBS4) – Highway 285 was closed Monday afternoon when a prescribed burn near Fairplay got out of control.
It started on private land near MM188, and wind drove the flames north along the highway with grasses as fuel. The fire reached County Road 7, which acted as a barrier. The fire was contained there.
At 3 p.m., the Colorado Department of Transportation warned drivers to expect delays because of it. The highway was reopened at approximately 4:45 p.m.
