CAÑON CITY, Colo. (CBS4) – Authorities are hoping the public can help identify the person who shot a hawk with an arrow in southern Colorado.
A red tail hawk was found in the bushes near the Canon City Park and Rec Archery Range with an arrow stuck through its left wing. Officials believe the bird was shot by someone at the archery range.
The hawk was taken to a veterinarian, where the arrow was removed and the wing found to be broken. The bird was taken to the Nature and Raptor Center of Pueblo to recover.
Investigators are finger printing and swabbing the arrow for DNA.
Anyone with information or who was at the archery range on Wednesday is asked to contact the Division of Wildlife or the anonymous Operation Game Thief at 1-877-265-6648.
