Woman Saved From Burning Home By Neighbor In Park Hill

DENVER (CBS4) - A man ran into a burning home to save his neighbor Saturday afternoon.

The fire broke out at a home located at 36th Avenue and Ivanhoe Street in Denver's North Park Hill neighborhood.

There's not much damage visible on the exterior of the home but firefighters say there were a lot of flames.

Fred Edmonds says he was walking home with his son after a basketball game when they noticed the smoke and fire. That's when Edmonds ran inside.

"I ran into the house and I saw the lady was sitting on the bed. We kicked the door open and smoke just engulfed the entire ceiling; it hit me in the face," Edmonds said. "The first thing I thought was just to pick her up and get her out of the house. So I picked her up and was able to carry her out of the house while the smoke was everywhere … her daughter was in there with the dog. I actually thought it was another person in the house, but it was actually the dog."

Edmonds says it was just an instinct to go into the home. He says he just bought his son a cellphone which he used to call firefighters.

The woman and her daughter were transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

It's not clear how the fire started.
