Several Injured As Underground Train Malfunctions At DIA

DENVER (CBS4) - Several people were hurt early Saturday morning when one of the trains at Denver International Airport that shuttles passengers from the terminal to the concourses malfunctioned.

Airport spokeswoman Heath Montgomery said the train had 50 passengers on it and was headed towards the terminal when the incident occurred.

Montgomery said the accident took place while the train was switching from the east side to the west side. A sensor malfunction caused the train to suddenly accelerate and then decelerate, and a software identified the sensor issue immediately.

Three people wound up being taken to the hospital by ambulance. A child was also driven to the hospital in a private vehicle to get checked out. Several other people refused medical treatment.

The train cars involved were taken out of service and replaced with other cars, and they were running normally at midday on Saturday.
