Denver Post Editor Gregory Moore Steps Down After 14 Years

DENVER (AP) - The editor of The Denver Post, who led Colorado's largest newspaper when it won four Pulitzer Prizes, will resign after 14 years on the job, the publication said Tuesday.

Gregory L. Moore will step down on April 1, the Post reported. He said he decided to pursue other challenges and that it was time for someone else to lead the newspaper.

During his tenure, The Post launched a website called The Cannabist, covering the business and culture of recreational marijuana after Coloradans voted in 2012 to legalize it. It also started a news video production unit called DPTV.

Moore, who came to the Post in 2002 from The Boston Globe, had to contend with a shrinking newsroom staff as it and other newspapers dealt with the transition to online and mobile delivery of news.

He told staffers Tuesday that some of the newspaper's most creative thinking was done amid declining resources.

Moore did not immediately return a phone call from The Associated Press.

Post News Director Lee Ann Colacioppo will lead the newsroom during a search for Moore's successor, Publisher Mac Tully said. Colacioppo is a candidate for the job, the newspaper said.
