Homicide Investigation Underway After Man Dies In Nightclub Parking Lot

By Melissa Garcia

DENVER (CBS4) - Detectives are investigating a homicide at a west Denver nightclub.

Police responded to multiple calls shortly after 6 a.m. Saturday and found a man deceased outside of Stone the Club on Morrison Road near Sheridan Boulevard.

Crime scene tape surrounded the perimeter of the nightclub Saturday afternoon.

The daughter of the victim said her father, 46, leaves behind two children and five grandchildren.

Family members met with police and exchanged hugs outside of the club.

The victim's daughter said that her father had gone to the night club with a friend, and that he had been shot.

An employee of the business next door said he arrived at work Saturday morning to see the man dead on the parking lot pavement.

"The Stone always, they have problems in the night because too much drinking.  It happens all the time.  We hear a lot of fights," he said.

David Boyd lives right across the street, and he agrees that it's a dangerous area.

"For the past week that I've been here I've heard a lot of yelling at night and stuff, and they get pretty wild over there," said Boyd.

Detectives spent the day investigating, and were not able to release any information surrounding the circumstances behind the man's death.

"It's an active investigation," said Tyrone Campbell, Technician with the Denver Police Department. "So at this point, they're going to talk to everybody they can.  Once again, we urge anyone who has any information to come forward."

Police have not identified any suspect, and detectives are awaiting the results of an autopsy.
