Von Miller: 'Who Knows? You Might See Johnny Manziel In Denver'

DENVER (CBS4/The Sports Exchange) - Last month Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller turned some heads by speaking out about the problems embattled quarterback Johnny Manziel has been facing, saying he's on the right track.

Now, a few weeks later Miller is once again speaking about his fellow Texas A&M alum (and raising eyebrows even further), suggesting there might be a place for Manziel on the Broncos roster.

"Not only will he be back in the league -- of course I'm biased -- I still feel like he has a lot of game left in him," he told GQ in a feature article. "I feel like -- you know you never want to blame a team -- I don't think he had enough support around him. Who knows? You might see Johnny Manziel in Denver."

Miller said he is working out with Manziel after they attended UFC 196 in Las Vegas on Saturday.

The Cleveland Browns are expected to officially release Manziel, their former first-round pick, on Wednesday afternoon. The NFL Network reported Tuesday that Manziel would be released.

Manziel is not in the plans of the franchise under the direction of vice president Sashi Brown and head coach Hue Jackson, who said last month the Browns are "moving on from those types of situations." The reference was to Manziel finding trouble away from the field, including a domestic violence case in Dallas last month.

Manziel was the 22nd overall pick in the 2014 draft but departs Cleveland with an incomplete grade.

Manziel started eight games, had seven touchdowns, seven interceptions and seven fumbles, but he failed to find the touch of luck it requires to stay on the field consistently.
The rockstar persona of Johnny Football, a name he earned in a rise to acclaim as the Heisman Trophy winner at Texas A&M, was too great to leave behind. Manziel was criticized by teammates for a lack of professionalism and wound up in at a rehab facility in January 2015.

Manziel was given a shot to earn the starting job by the Browns but during the team's bye week a video emerged showing the quarterback at a party, which drew the ire of the franchise and, rather than starting on "Monday Night Football" at Baltimore coming off of two weeks to prepare, Manziel was benched and inactive for that game.

He finished the season away from the team. While the Browns were on the field for Week 17, Manziel was nowhere to be found and spent the day before in Las Vegas.

Former head coach Mike Pettine said in November that he informed Manziel in hopes of sending a message that "There is no magical solution. We tell our players, 'You lose trust in buckets and you regain it in drops,'" and that could play out with Manziel in free agency this month. It will take a bold, forgiving, risk-taking organization to find a place for Manziel.

Manziel's father said last month that Johnny Manziel would not follow the suggestion from the family to return to rehab.
