Denver Center For International Studies Evacuated Over Threat

DENVER (CBS4) - The Denver Center For International Studies was evacuated Friday afternoon in response to threats made to campus. Classes were cancelled for the rest of the day and students were sent home.

Denver Public Schools spokesman Alex Renteria told CBS4 news that a threat was made to Denver police that a student had a bomb in a backpack but investigators were not able to track the call.

Copter4 flew over the scene where police officers were patrolling the area.

DPS said parents and caretakers could pick up students at DCIS at Fairmount a few blocks away after they were evacuated. Students who ride buses were taken home on their normal routes.

Denver Police and Denver Public Schools shared the updates on Twitter.

The school is located on West 6th Avenue at Fox Street, and everyone inside was being evacuated at approximately 1:40 p.m.

Police closed off West 6th Avenue at Galapago Street. An ambulance was on scene as of 2 p.m.

All after school activities at DCIS have been cancelled for Friday.
