Safety David Bruton Excited To Become A Free Agent

DENVER (CBS4) - He'd love to be back with the Broncos next season, but it sure sounds like David Bruton will wind up playing for another NFL team.

Bruton, the guest on Xfinity Monday Live, said he is excited to become a free agent. He has loved his time in Denver but knows "there are potential suitors who need safeties."

The Broncos currently have two starting safeties -- T.J. Ward and Darian Stewart. Bruton was a backup to them through most of the season, and he'd like to get more playing time.

"I don't just want to be a backup the rest of my career," said the 28-year-old veteran. "I feel like I've shown that I am able to play. I was able to play in college -- that's why I was drafted. There's something about me that's why I'm still here seven years in the league."

Bruton said there's one team he wouldn't sign with, though: the New England Patriots.

"I've been under that coaching style in college and my first two years in the league," Bruton said. "It's just not something that I responded well to."

The NFL's free agency period begins on March 9, and there are several other players from the Broncos defense who will become unrestricted free agents like Bruton.
