Hickenlooper, Coffman Honor Slain Colorado Deputy

DENVER (AP) - The honor and support shown at the funeral of a slain Colorado sheriff's deputy shows overwhelming public support for the jobs police officers do.

That's the message delivered Tuesday to law enforcement officers at the state capitol by Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper and Republican Attorney General Cynthia Coffman.

Officers from around the country attended Monday's funeral for Derek Geer, a Mesa County deputy who was shot Feb. 8 trying to detain a suspect. He died two days later.

Prosecutors plan to charge a 17-year-old male on Tuesday as an adult in the shooting.

Coffman attended Monday's service and said it's an experience that would forever change the way people view the jobs law enforcement officers do.
