Obama Congratulates Broncos On Super Bowl Win

WASHINGTON (AP/CBS4) - President Barack Obama says via Twitter that he has passed along his congratulations to the Denver Broncos for winning the Super Bowl.

Obama tweets: "Just got off the phone with Coach Kubiak. Congrats to Peyton, Von Miller, and that monster @Broncos defense - see you at the White House!"

The president routinely honors the nation's sports champions with a reception.

Obama typically doesn't predict who will win the Super Bowl, but in this case, he did so as long as CBS didn't reveal the pick until the day after the game. It turns out the president thought the Carolina Panthers would win, which the Broncos players will probably remind him of during what is traditionally a light-hearted ceremony.

Statement From The Denver Broncos

Official White House readout of the President's call:

Today, President Obama called Denver Broncos Head Coach Gary Kubiak and team captain DeMarcus Ware to congratulate them and the Broncos on their Super Bowl victory. The President recognized the team's talented players, including quarterback Peyton Manning and the Denver defense, and noted that this win was the culmination of an impressive season. The President said he looks forward to the team's visit to the White House to congratulate the players in person.
