Wonder Where All The Snowplows Are? CDOT Makes It Easy To Find Out

DENVER (CBS4) - As the Front Range braces for severe winter weather, the Colorado Department of Transportation is adding another tool to help keep roads clear.

With 12 hours shifts, CDOT went on full snow patrol Sunday as winter weather makes its way across Colorado, and now the new snowplow tracker keeps drivers ahead of the storm.

"We alerted our people that we're probably going to have to be working extra hours," said Michael O'Neill, CDOT Deputy Director.

Amy Ford with CDOT says the system allows the public to see exactly where all the plows are, where they're going, and where they've been in real time.

"We hear from the public all the time that they never saw our plows, they don't know where we are," Ford said. "If you click on that you will be able to answer the age old question of, 'Where is the plow?'"

Ford said 860 of the state's 970 plows have the tracking system. CDOT hopes that from the mountains to the city to eastern Colorado that drivers use the tool to plan trips and stay safe.

"With this tool they will actually be able to see exactly where our plows are, exactly where we have come through, and be able to plan their trips accordingly," Ford said.

CDOT is reminding drivers to give snow plows plenty of space over the next few days. Plows will be out until the roads are clear.
