Suspected Thieves Arrested, Police Search For More Victims

LOVELAND, Colo. (CBS4)- Two theft suspects were arrested after they were spotted on surveillance video and a motel employee recognized them. Officers believe there could be more victims who haven't come forward because so many stolen items were recovered.

Police say shortly before 7 p.m. on Wednesday, officers responded to Namaqua Elementary School to investigate a theft from a vehicle. The victim told police that her car was broken into while she was at a school function. Her purse was stolen and her credit card company already notified her of a suspicious purchase at One Love, a retail marijuana shop.

The officer went to One Love where the employees handed over the surveillance images of the two people who used the stolen credit card.

A little later an officer spoke with the staff at La Quinta Inn and he showed them the images where the staff recognized the suspects in the surveillance images as guests staying at the hotel.

About 1 a.m. Friday officers contacted the two people who matched the description of the two in the surveillance images, identified as Jessy Fields from Boulder and Shane Potts from Broomfield.

Officers said they recovered a substantial amount of property believed to be stolen during other recent thefts from vehicles. Detectives in Loveland have contacted other local law enforcement agencies about the recovery of stolen items and the arrests of Fields, 26, and Potts, 41.

The officers also recovered two stolen vehicles associated with the suspects.

Fields remains in custody in the Larimer County Jail on several charges including aggravated motor vehicle theft, criminal trespass, theft, criminal mischief, identity theft, forgery and criminal possession of a forged instrument.

Potts was taken to the Larimer County Jail for unlawfully carrying a concealed weapon, aggravated motor vehicle theft, criminal trespass, theft, criminal mischief, identity theft and criminal impersonation.
