Skier Triggers Avalanche In Backcountry

RED MOUNTAIN PASS, Colo. (CBS4)- A skier triggered an avalanche in the backcountry on Red Mountain Pass on Friday.

Staffers with the Colorado Avalanche Information Center were conducting field work on the pass when they witnesses a skier trigger a slide right next to them.

The slide was about 300 feet wide and nearly seven feet deep.

No one was hurt but avalanche experts urge backcountry skiers to stay safe, watch for warning signs and carry the right gear to prepare for the worst.
