Denver Mayor Leads Fan Charge To The Super Bowl

DENVER (CBS4) - Mayor Michael Hancock is a Denver native and a lifelong Broncos fan. He watched the AFC Championship Game on Sunday against the New England Patriots at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.

"As a Broncos fan, this is a phenomenal feeling," Hancock told CBS4 anchors Jim Benemann and Karen Leigh outside the stadium after the game.

The mayor explained why he was unable to do a city-to-city bet with the mayor of Boston, as usually is par for the course around playoffs time. Mayor Marty Walsh and Hancock talked about it while they both attended the Conference of Mayors in Washington D.C.

"We had dinner last week in Washington and we talked about potentially doing a wager, but he said every time he bet they lost. So next year he has no excuse," Hancock said with a laugh.

He praised the Denver defense, congratulated the entire team, and credited the fan base for its part in the win.

"The 12th Man showed up today in a way that I have never seen. It was unbelievable in that stadium," the mayor exclaimed.

With Monday's win on the books, Hancock turned his attention to the next challenge.

"Congratulations to John Elway and the entire organization. And we'll be sitting right here on CBS watching Super Bowl 50. I'm excited."
