DENVER (CBS4) - Police in Denver are investigating a deadly shootout at a shopping center on Saturday.

The shooting happened in the 12400 block East Albrook Drive near 46th Avenue and Peoria Street just after 5:30 p.m. where the crime scene was at least 100 yards long.

According to police, an altercation started at the end of the shopping center and then shots were exchanged. The victim, who hasn't been identified, died in front of a Regional Transportation District bus.

"I had actually heard the four different gun shots when I was taking orders," said witness Isaac Freyta, who works at the shopping center.

Freyta told CBS4's Jeff Todd the shootout involved at least two cars that were still in the parking lot when police arrived.

"I (saw) a Chrysler 200, which was the car they were shooting at, and that was the first car that the cops had stopped," Freyta said.

Police wouldn't confirm which vehicles were involved but said they would be inspected by investigators.

"We're not sure what the argument was over, we're still looking at that," Sonny Jackson with Denver Police said. "We've got numerous people we're taking downtown to talk with because we feel they may have valuable information as to who did the shooting."

Police say they're looking for surveillance video from some shops and the RTD bus.

"We don't know how many shooters we have at this point in time. Obviously we're going to look into that and talk to the numerous witnesses we're taking downtown," Jackson said.

Police wouldn't say if the male victim was armed or not.
