DENVER (CBS4) - A man who was injured escaping a house fire that killed his son with multiple sclerosis has also died.

The fire broke out Jan. 12 at the home on West Stanford Avenue, which is near the intersection of West Quincy Avenue and South Kipling Street. Ralph Andrade III had been in the hospital ever since and the family on Saturday announced he has died from his injuries.

Josephine and Ralph Andrade III -- both in their 70s -- were inside along with Ralph Junior, who was killed in the fire. A neighbor got two ladders to help rescue those inside. Josephine and two additional family members made it out of the house safely. Ralph Andrade III, who was on kidney dialysis, couldn't make it to the ladder. He suffered a head injury after falling out of the window.

Josephine Andrade is still being treated.

The Andrade family released a statement thanking the community and the team of doctors, nurses, and staff at Denver Health for their outpouring of support.

Firefighters are expected to know the cause of the fire and release that information Monday afternoon. They know it started in the basement and spread quickly.
