Police Release Footage Of Violent Attack On Woman In Hopes To Catch Suspect

LOVELAND, Colo. (CBS4) - A man behind a brutal attack in Loveland is still on the loose. Video footage shows him chasing down and then beating a woman. After months of dead ends police are now turning to the public for help catching the attacker.

The attack occurred on July 3 last year in the 1300 block of West 29th Street.

Police say it's taken a long time to reveal much about the suspect because they were trying to protect the victim's dignity. The footage is graphic but now the victim says she wants people to see it. Another woman says the same suspect chased her down in the same area on the same night as the attack.

It was just before 3 a.m. when the man in the video attacked Shawn Peters' wife while she was on a break from her night shift. The man tackled her in a parking lot and violently beat her.

"If she did not fight back the way that she did, it's only speculation, but a very, very bad situation that happened absolutely could have been much worse," Peters said.

She fought off the attacker after repeated assaults. Peters says he and his wife agreed to let police release the video of the brutal attack to the public because the investigation had gone cold.

"I have no doubt that he's going to do this again," Peters said.

Police also released a sketch of a thick-built white man in his 20s with short, light brown hair.

Hours before the attack another woman called 911 about a similar suspect in a black SUV who was stalking her.

"The investigators are fairly certain that they are the same, that the two incidents involve the same man," Sgt. Mike Halloran with Loveland Police said.

Investigators hope someone recognizes the man -- his movements, his behavior and his clothes to help them find and arrest him.

"You see the video, you see what he's done; we can't let it happen again," Peters said. "He needs to be off the streets."

So far no other reports are connected to the specific suspect, but anyone who recognizes him is asked to call Loveland police.
