East Coast Storm To Affect Flights At DIA, Airlines Waiving Flight Change Fees
DENVER (CBS4) - A winter storm on the East Coast beginning Thursday is expected to turn into a major snowstorm on Friday and last through the weekend, and it's already affecting air travel at Denver International Airport.
Fifteen East Coast states are expected to get heavy snow. According to CBS4 Meteorologist Chris Spears, the storm could feature blizzard conditions in large cities such as Baltimore and Washington, D.C., a major hub for United Airlines, which also has a hub at DIA.
Along with United, due to the forecast many airlines have waived fees to change travel plans, including American, Frontier and Southwest.
"When severe weather or other major events may impact our operations, we sometimes issue travel waivers to allow you to change to alternate flights without paying a change fee," United Airlines said in a statement. "The change fee and any difference in fare will be waived for new flights departing on or before Jan. 20-27, as long as travel is rescheduled in the same cabin (any fare class) and between the same cities as originally ticketed."
Most travelers took the news in stride.
"You've got to deal with it... just go with it," said Sean Harper who was traveling to Boston from DIA.
Many departing and arriving flights at DIA are expected to be affected by the storm. Travelers should check with their airlines for the status of their flights.
