Comic Book Collector Targeted By Thieves

By Jeff Todd

DENVER (CBS4)- Whether thieves knew his schedule, or just got lucky at a time he wasn't home, Steffan Warren doesn't care; he just wants his memorabilia back.

On Monday morning someone broke into his house, opened the garage door and drove a car inside that they then filled with comics, electronics and statues.

"My life is comics and movies and it's all I do. So for someone to know (what's in my house) I wouldn't really know how," Warren told CBS4's Jeff Todd.

He was born with his umbilical cord around his neck and doctors said he wouldn't walk or talk because of Cerebral Palsy.

Warren has a full-time job and was at that job when his apartment was robbed.

"They took a lot," Warren said. "I had 10 comic boxes, statues, video games, collectibles, laptop, an iPod…"

The list went on. It's estimated the crooks took a total of $30,000 worth of his possessions.

"I didn't have friends growing up. My whole life was comic books and I've been made fun of every day. It was a way for me to take myself out of this reality, so I wouldn't always be hurt," Warren said.

He's spent his time away from work telling shops to be on the lookout.

"I spent the day e-mailing and calling comic stores to tell them this is what they took if it's comes in just know it's stolen."

The Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office is investigating but Warren doesn't think he'll see any of his property ever again.

"It's not what it was, it's what it meant to me. It's my life. It really hurts," Warren said.
