History Colorado Cowboys Up For The Stock Show

By Alan Gionet

DENVER (CBS4) - History Colorado brought more unique items out of storage on Tuesday as Denver gets ready for the annual National Western Stock Show.

This time visitors get to see horn furniture. The owner of the old Smith Brothers Packing House in Denver had an armchair and footstool made for his brother's wife. Smith Brothers was the first packing plant to establish itself in Denver as the city began a long history with the stock industry.

Christopher Smith, who owned the business with his brother John Thomas Smith, had the chair made from cattle horns from cattle that met their fate at the packing house. He gave the furniture to his brother's wife.

It's part of the Stock Show themed exhibit that was brought out Tuesday as part of "Who Knew!? Everything Old is New Again."
