Al-Jazeera: Intern Was Employed During Claims Of Manning HGH Use

By Rick Sallinger

DENVER (CBS4)- New developments on the allegations that Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning may have used human growth hormone.

Al-Jazeera has released a tape of a phone call which it says verifies that an informant worked at a clinic at the time Manning was treated.

Called "The Dark Side," the Al-Jazeera documentary raised questions as to whether Peyton Manning used the banned substance human growth hormone known as HGH.

Something Manning vehemently denied to ESPN, "That stings me that that guy insinuates that I broke rules… That's a joke."

The documentary claims the HGH came from this Indianapolis clinic. A former intern, Charles Sly, claimed the HGH would be delivered to Manning's wife Ashley. Al-Jazeera recorded the statements on a hidden camera.

"All the time it would be under her name it would never be under Peyton's name," Sly said.

But Dr. Dale Guyer of the clinic quickly stated, "Mr. Sly was never an employee of the Guyer Institute and his brief three month internship occurred in 2013 during which time Peyton was not even being treated."

Al-Jazeera has now released a phone call which it claims discredits that statement.

"The start date we have for him was 10-17-11," a person reported to be from the clinic said in response to a request for employment verification.

But Sly himself has taken back what he said.

"I am recanting any such statements," Sly said in a YouTube clip.

A look into the background of the clinic's namesake, Dr. Leonard Dale Guyer, shows his name comes up in court papers.

Although not charged, Guyer was named in a federal indictment in Colorado which alleged he received unapproved Chinese HGH from a Colorado Springs Pharmacy. Guyer's background also includes accusations in divorce papers about not filing taxes, and owing money in a bankruptcy case. None of which proves Peyton Manning used HGH.

As for Peyton Manning, his former team the Indianapolis Colts and the Denver Broncos remain firmly behind him.
